Irmo is a family-friendly town with local events, nearby lake and parks. Read on to find out what might add to the fun for your family’s visit to Irmo.

Irmo Town Park

There are many events for children and families at Irmo Town Park throughout the year. The park sports picnic spots, a creek, concert gazebo with ampitheatre and pond with kid-friendly grassy areas. The park is open from 7:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.

Saluda Shoals Park

This riverfront park along the Saluda River provides miles of hiking, educational center, kayaking, canoeing, and boating, as well as places to picnic. Both paved and unpaved trails are available depending on your family’s needs. Park admission is $4.00 for residents and $5.00 for nonresidents arriving in cars or minivans. 

Is your dog traveling with you?  He’s welcome to come, too, just as long as you keep him on a leash.

The park also offers Saluda Splash water playground. It is open from the end of April to the beginning of September and costs $3.00 for entrance.

Edventure Children’s Museum

Edventure Children’s Museum is the largest children’s museum in the South.  It’s located in nearby Columbia and is a great place for children 12 and younger. The museum focuses on informal education through its six indoor galleries and two outdoor galleries. More than 300 hands-on exhibits give young people plenty to do!

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden

Palmetto Parent magazine voted the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden the “Best Place to Take Your Children for the Afternoon.”  Located in nearby Columbia, this park’s many accolades ring true with their variety of sights, animal demonstrations and things to do on any given day.

On Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m., special tours of the zoo are available with behind-the-scenes action. The tour focuses on a different topic each month. Reservations are highly encouraged for this once-a-week event. The tour costs an additional $5.00.

Frankie’s Fun Park

This amusement park in nearby Columbia will give your family plenty to do: rides, go-karts, mini golf, bumper boats, batting cages and more. The park has no entrance fee; you pay for the games that you play with costs ranging from $2.00-$7.00 for activities. Hours of operation vary according to the season; check with the park before you plan your trip.
