Nearby Columbia provides the residents of Irmo with top-quality health care. Medical centers in Columbia and nearby West Cola provide comprehensive medical care and include a children’s hospital in Columbia.

Lake Murray provides a plethora of water sports, fishing and other outdoor activities for residents and visitors alike. A pedestrian walkway across the dam that’s just ouside of Irmo provides a place for bike riding and walking with unique views of the lake.

Parks like Saluda Shoals provide hiking, kayaking and canoeing, and horseback riding opportunities. A children’s water park in Saluda Shoals provides a place for little ones to enjoy the park as well. Community events bring people out to enjoy each other and the beauty of the lake.

In addition to the many recreational activities provided by Lake Murray, three golf courses are located near Irmo. South Carolina itself is a great golfing destination. The nearby courses are located in Lexington, Chapin, and Columbia. They are all a short drive from Irmo.
